We have had a super start to Year 4. Everyone really enjoyed creating school rules - which were inspired by the book 'Rules of Summer' by Shaun Tan. We created illustrations to match our rules and then creates iMovie trailers as a way to share them. We brought the Ancient Greek topic to an end by spending the afternoon tasting Greek food. Even though not everyone liked everything, everyone tried everything! What a highlight of the year - and an apology if the children start demanding new items on the shopping list (probably not olives!). The children have had an interesting time creating pinch clay pots as it wasn't as easy as it looked! However they found that their perseverance and resilience skills came in handy when the clay didn't do exactly what they wanted it to!
We even had a great discussion, which linked to our previous Science topic, about how the clay hardens and why our classroom would help it! This morning the children travelled back in time and discovered a set of objects, which provided clues to their new topic. They needed to decide which were the most useful clues and use the internet to investigate further. It was a little bit tricky for some!
The children planned their experiment to find out whether white, milk or dark chocolate would melt first. They enjoyed taking measurements and recording the results.
Everyone had a wonderful day reading The Tin Forest. We created our own creatures and wrote non chronological reports about them, followed by some amazingly creative ways to make them for our Key Stage 2 actual Tin Forest! |
